Emily Jane White - Portobello Rock Club, Caen, may 23th, 2016

There are obvious meetings. Road crossings. We speak, we tell stories, we listen. We separate to why not meet again. This is life. Tonight, I made one of these magical meetings that learns. One of these meetings that tells you that nothing is lost in this world. The American Emily Jane White was tonight in Caen at the Portobello Rock Club, the concert hall which starts despite only one year of existence of having a good business card.

I felt that the evening would be delicious and I'm not mistaken. We feel Emily Jane White both fragile and strong, seeking recognition and confident. In any case, apart from these paradoxes there is one certain thing : it is her talent, her ability to write dazzling songs, rich sounds, captivating words. And that unique voice. Transcendental. Emily came on stage with a drummer (Nick Ott) and a bass player (Laura Weinbach), both very talented, to tell us her latest album "They Moved in Shadow All Together", an album of stunning beauty. When visiting Emily's universe, we no longer want to leave. We feel good. One is captivated, you feel like in a bubble bath, pain magically fade.

The bassist of Emily, Laura Weinbach, came on stage 30 minutes to play her sweet songs with her acoustic guitar. She looks shy but she has a beautiful voice and much talent. She plays guitar and she sings in Foxtails Brigade a band from San Francisco. Don't hesitate to discover Foxtails Brigade on the web.

Sometimes playing the electric guitar (a beautiful red Epiphone), sometimes at the piano, Emily and her musicians, united like the fingers of the hand, present us several tracks of this new album : Frozen Garden, Nightmares on Repeat, Hands, Pallid Eyes, Rupturing, Moulding, Antechamber and Womankind. But her album Ode to Sentience which dates from 2010, is well represented with Oh Katherine, the other albums are represented by Faster Than The Devil and The Black Dove. The public is knowledgeable, receptive. Some sit down on the ground to better appreciate. Those who do not know Emily's music are enthusiastics. During one hour and half, we flew above the ground, we fly with angels. It was beautiful. And then we came down, softly, because we had to. Emily Jane White is a beautiful person. She is passionate, talented but probably also has dark sides for writing and singing such deep things.

After her concert, she came with her musicians talk with us, sign autographs, take pictures and I felt a great serenity in her heart and in her soft voice. Music is her life. Before leaving, I went to greet her, she took my hands, and thanked me for coming. And I have told her in French, she lived two years in Bordeaux, I saw an extraordinary concert. And she smiled at me.
