Miami Vice and rock'n'roll

Miami Vice and rock’n’roll are now inseparable. At the beginning of the series, producers have struggled to get the agreements from labels for their singers are part of the soundtrack of the series. However, after a few episodes, the speech is different because Miami Vice is a positive springboard for a lot of stars of rock'n'roll.

Indeed, the passage of one of his songs quickly became a mandatory rite as the growing success of the series. The first to be bonded are the Rolling Stones themselves with their timeless and interplanetary hit "Miss You" at the beginning of the first episode. Also in this first double episode, remains in the memory of all the fans, the scene where Crockett and Tubbs are in the Ferrari at night on background of "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins, who also play in an episode (" Phil the Shill season , Lynyrd Skynyrd with the odorant "That Smell",  Ted Nugent and his fabulous "Little Miss Dangerous", Glenn Frey of the Eagles played in an episode ("Smuggler 's Blues") and played "You Belong to the City" in a cult episode where Crockett goes to New York. Huey Lewis and the News in a full success era while also participating in the soundtrack of the series, Peter Gabriel, Steppenwolf , Steve Jones and " Mercy ", Tina Turner, the Damned , the Doors , U2, Jackson Browne , James Brown, Laura Branigan David Bowie and Rod Stewart. I can not name them all but I forget some. The passage in Miami Vice became a must, a requirement for the release of the new album of the artist or to revive his career. Don Johnson himself with the release of his album "Heartbeat" has placed "Heartbeat" and " Streetwise". Good advertising for his singing career. Philip Michael Thomas has sung the excellent "Living the Book of My Life" which was released at the same time as "Heartbeat" but with much less success . Would it have friction and rivalry between the two actors / singers ? In any case, Don Johnson won the battle. But this is another story.

The producers of the show reserved over 10,000 dollars per episode to buy the copyright of the hits of the day. Able to place one of his songs quickly became an honor and a privilege. Even an obligation and a must. Of course, we must not forget the fantastic musical performance of Jan Hammer and Tim Truman, who has survived time, but the presence of songs helped Miami Vice to go down to posterity some scenes anthologies. Apart from those already listed above, there is the bright scene where we hear Red 7 and " Heartbeat " with the backdrop of Crockett and his boat at sunset.

This association and rock images was at the time a totally new phenomenon. Another area where Miami Vice innovated . Miami Vice was a series that created new things in many fields : how to shoot, stories of a new kind , more realistic style and a completely reinvented a new aesthetic , long action scenes punctuated by the ubiquitous music and so important. The music is not longer in the background but totally in history. Today the series is one such model for all these reasons but also by the new concept of integrating long musical scenes.
So play again your DVD’s of Miami Vice and watch all five seasons, the long chase scenes and other enhanced by music.
