W.E.T. - Retransmission
W.E.T. W for Work of Art, Robert Såll's band, E for Eclipse, Erik Mårtensson's band and finally T for Talisman, Jeff Scott Soto's band. The three men come together to found W.E.T., a melodic rock band, melodic certainly but quite fiery. But Erik, Robert and Jeff are not alone on the project since they have associated Magnus Henriksson (Eclipse) on lead guitar, Andreas Passmark (Royal Hunt, Narnia, Harmony) on bass and Robban Bäck (former Eclipse) on drums.
Retransmission is their fourth album and it is clear that this album has enormous qualities: powerful production, all successful titles and a gigantic sound. Everything is inspired, supercharged, the choruses are enjoyable and no one derives the musical benefit from them.
The proof is with Big Boys Don't Cry, the first track whose riff is of a formidable efficiency. This track is a beautiful showcase of what the band represents: power, melody and Jeff Scott Soto's vocals are always extraordinary. The backing vocals are in place and Magnus Henriksson, on lead guitar, is breathtaking. Don't wait for a moment of weakness on the album because the follwing titles prove the dexterity of the musicians and their know-how.
The Moment of Truth is irresisitable, the perfect definition of melodic rock with great vocals. The Call of The Wild, after a sweet intro, takes the same path. The verses, the chorus, the backing vocals, the guitars, the rhythm are perfect. An excellent title.
Got To Be About Love is more agreed, although the sound is absolutely powerful. Journey's inspiration without reaching the level. On the other hand Beautiful Game puts the machine back on the road. Melodic rock as we like. How Far to Babylon definitely stands out. Groovy, rock, melodic and a deluge of guitars. A title not to be missed. To listen in loop.
Coming Home is pleasant. We can appreciate the pretty choirs and the always sublime voice of the master Jeff Scott Soto. What Are You Waiting For is the ballad that accompanies any good self-respecting melodic rock record. It will be impossible for you to resist You Better Believe It as it is so perfect in its role as master stallion of melodic rock. Solid rhythm, very thick guitars without being too hard and always this voice ... And a short but effective solo.
How Do I Know is effective, energetic and more than convincing. Turn up the volume, your neighbors will thank you. One Final Kiss effectively closes this superb and successful album from a master band and musicians in the genre. The backing vocals are once again unstoppable and Jeff always shows incredible precision. And what a solo once more!
An incredible album for all lovers (and there are many) of a genre of music that is not about to die out with such records and such musicians.
