Brisa ROCHE - Takes (2007)
Brisa Roché is an American born in California in 1976. But for some time she lives in Paris and is fluent in French. She made a name for herself by singing in the jazz clubs of Saint Germain des Prés. Her first influences come from jazz, but Brisa varies the effects by singing blues, pop, or even pop-folk and pop-rock. But dissatisfied with her first album, Brisa Roché changes record label and signs with the independent label Discograph.
Fifteen titles, it's fresh, it's alive, from the first title Breathe in Speak Out, on which the voice of Brisa Roché is superb, deep and walks among the melody, very pleasant. Heavy Dreaming, it is a ballad according to the melodies of the Beach Boys, fresh as a day by the seaside. Spring is here, it is announced by The Drum, a nonchalant title with very shimmering acoustic guitars. Listening is pure pleasure, a pleasure that does not end with Trampoline, with its catchy and delicate melody like a bouquet of flowers.

Hand On Steel is more nostalgic and the sharing of voices with Philippe Rigal, one of the French musicians of Brisa is successful. We perceive a fragility close to emotion. With only accompaniment a guitar, which seems to be lost in the sound horizon. Personally, I love Whistle, swept by beautiful percussions and very pleasant guitars. The sensitive voice of Brisa Roché works perfectly on this title.

The Building is the typical example of modern pop rock. A slow, jerky rhythm on the bottom of keyboards and drums. Without A Plan is another great moment. I like this ambient fragility, like an admission of weakness. I like the drums, the big bass sound and the many choruses. High comes straight from the sixities, voices and keyboards like Beach Boys and other psychedelic bands. And this sublime bass sound.

Egyptian is removed, rhythmic, it makes you want to get up, dance and sing. I repeat I like this voice, not perfect but that tells and breathes real life. Halfway On is very strange, a false rhythm and that voice that strolls among the sounds. Brisa sends us an invitation to share her world. We accept of course. The Choice is a pleasant moment, all on a nervous rhythmic and another share of voices between Brisa and Philippe Rigal.

Acoustic bass, classical and acoustic guitars and voices from afar. This is the sweet and beautiful Call Me. An invitation in various words and well chosen to call Brisa. Pitch Black Spotlight is at first weird but very quickly we are caught in the jazzy, pop, rock, blues influences. I really like this bass sound. And this electric guitar that only wants to express itself. The Mummy is a bewitching, fascinating and at the same time mesmerizing title. On the background of acoustic guitar, a voice out of the grave for a short title.

Brisa Roché attracts us like a magnet in her very particular universe. We adhere or not, but I think it's very attractive. She is often compared to Bjork but in my opinion she has a musical universe less eccentric and in my case more accessible. Brisa has since proved that she can sing different styles with great happiness, as her latest album, Father, proves.
