Alice Cooper - Detroit Stories

Alice Cooper is like good wine. He's getting better with age. The proof with his new album, which as its title indicates it pays homage to Alice's hometown, Detroit. And to help him in his quest, Alice has surrounded himself with beautiful people: his old mate, sound magician, Bob Ezrin on production and keyboards, Johnny "Bee" Badanjek on drums, Paul Randolph on bass but also Wayne Kramer of MC5 on guitar and very prestigious guests.

Rock'n'Roll is a cover of Th Velvet Underground written by Lou Reed and we find on guitars Joe Bonamassa, Steve Hunter and Garret Bielaniec. The proposed version is ... rock'n'roll. Alice Cooper is in great vocal form, with numerous and very spirited backing vocals and rhythm'n'blues. The great Steve Hunter's solo sounds very 70s. Nice introduction.

Go Man Go is wild, fast, edgy, bordering on punk. Apart from Garret Bielaniec, Wayne Kramer and Tommy Henriksen, we have the great pleasure to welcome to the guitars Mr. Grand Funk Railroad, Mark Farner. An urgent title that keeps you awake. Our Love Will Change The World takes on Beatles intonations and influences. Even Mr. Cooper's voice sounds like it did in the 60s.

Social Debris is pure Alice Cooper rock. Well built, strong but far from very original. But we are pleased to be able to listen to Neal Smith, Dennis Dunaway, Michael Bruce, the ex-acolytes of the original Alice Cooper Band. On the other hand $ 1000 High Heel Shoes is an absolutely enjoyable piece. It is eyeing the Motown side thanks to its brass, its backing vocals, its keyboards and its rhythm. The wah wah sol is most divine. Superb.

Hail Mary carried by the guitars of Garret Bielaniec, Wayne Kramer, Mark Farner and Tommy Henriksen is rock'n'roll. A short title but strong enough. Detroit City 2021 is more hard rock and we find the same guitarists as on the previous track. Jubilant thanks to its many guitar tracks. Drunk And In Love is a blues with Joe Bonamassa at the helm. When Alice takes out the harmonica, everything is fine. We return to rock'n'roll with Independence Dave on which Alice Cooper is again in a great vocal form. I Hate You is a fun short track, in which the original members of the Alice Cooper Band tell each other that they hate each other. They have humor.

Wonderful World is typical of '70s Alice and has an absolutely irresistible chorus. Sister Anne is rock'n'roll and still a heroic Alice on vocals. What an excellent track this Hanging On By A Thread (Don't Give Up). We find the Alice Cooper sound of the 90s and the album Hey Stoopid. Steve Hunter is royal on guitars, it's nice. The old are young.

Shut Up And Rock is wild rock while East Side Story is a supercharged cover of fellow Detroit native Bob Seger. A title that sometimes reminds me of the Gloria of Them. Many guitars all more saturated than the others. This album will not revolutionize rock history but it's nice to hear a good album full of rock'n'roll, saturated guitars, a Cooper in great vocal form and who comes back strong after a few albums not always on top. Alice Cooper still has rock 'n' roll rage and that's good.
